Chelmsford Museum launch call for creative practitioners

Calling all storytellers, artists, craft practitioners, reenactors – your local museum is looking for you! Chelmsford Museum is growing its events and outreach offer, and we’re looking for creative people to be a part of our journey.

Chelmsford Museum sits at the heart of Chelmsford’s beautiful Oaklands Park at the end of Moulsham Street. You can take a walk-through Chelmsford’s history, from the Ice Age, right through to the present day.

Our Events and Outreach activities will link to the Museum collections and offer a balance between education, history, and creativity. We want our community to discover and explore Chelmsford’s stories and its people through shared experiences that bring our collections to life.

The Museums values are: sense of belonging; excitement; curiosity, and equality. To help us deliver and develop our events and outreach alongside our values, we are looking to meet facilitators and practitioners who are excited to engage with their local community, believe that culture and the museum has an important role to play and are passionate about their practice.

We are looking to work with (but not limited to):

  • Storytellers.
  • Artists (perhaps looking at a heritage art form).
  • Craft practitioners (perhaps looking at a heritage craft).
  • Reenactors.
  • Other creative practices which you feel could have a link to the museum and work in an event or outreach setting.

For our next exhibition we have a particular interest in working with:

  • Soundscape designers.
  • Photographers – to deliver workshops on photography using phones.
  • Poets.
  • Creative writers.
  • Nature and wellbeing-based practitioners.

We can’t guarantee that we’ll find something for everyone, but we’d like to say connected if anything becomes available. The Museum will renumerate, and we are looking for those that have their own DBS and insurance.

To express an interest in working with Chelmsford Museum on our Events and Outreach projects, please email your CV and a short statement that highlights your experience and your practice to our Events and Outreach Officer, Maxine, maxine.clark@chelmsford.gov.uk.

Remembering Essex Witches

Witches are a common sight this time of year, casting spells with a cackle in spooky Halloween displays. But these seasonal cartoon hags are a far cry from the real ‘witches’ of Essex who form part of a much darker history in our county. During the 16th and 17th...
