Whilst always having a love for Drama, my passion for outreach work began when I trained in Community Drama at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, graduating with first class hons and the Facilitation Award. A year later, I was training to teach secondary drama, with me then teaching for 7 years. I love working with teenagers! After giving all I could to the profession, I stepped back to community work and spent a year and a half as the Community Connector for Mid Essex libraries. An excellent experience that allowed me to refine my event planning and get my teeth into some larger scale projects.
That brings me to where I am now, the Creative Engagement Officer for Chelmsford theatre! What even is a Creative Engagement Officer, I hear you ask. Well! My role focuses on developing a wide-reaching outreach and participation program, that encourages everyone in Chelmsford and beyond to feel a connection with their local theatre. I am focusing on six key strands to help define my work: community, young people, schools, artists, families, and partnerships.
I am always wanting to collaborate with new partners, schools, and artists, so please do email me with any questions or ideas.
More specifically, we would love to utilise the creativity and skills available in Chelmsford when hiring facilitators for our in-theatre workshops. We are particularly interested in hearing from:
- Acting, singing or dance practitioners/facilitators
- Puppet makers or performers
- Film makers
- Make-up artists – stage make up
- Costume designers
- Technical theatre specialists
- Set designers
- Storytellers
- Baby/toddler practitioners, particularly baby music and sensory
We cannot promise we can find something for everyone, but with our ever-growing programme we want to stay connected for future projects. The theatre will renumerate, and we would require you to have your own DBS and insurance.
I look forward to working with many of you!
