Events

Our events are hosted in the city as well as online. Our relaxed monthly Socials are a great way to meet others and hear inspirational talks from local and national creatives. Our online, monthly Hub events are the ideal platform to promote what you are doing and call out for support and collaboration.

If you are holding a creative or cultural event in or near Chelmsford then fill in the ‘Add your event’ form below, and we will include in the monthly Ignite Members’ and Friends’ newsletters.

We recommend that all events are also listed on the Chelmsford for You website, the central hub for event listings in Chelmsford.

To tie in Gaia’s visit to Chelmsford, October’s Ignite Social looks at Mother Earth in partnership with Writtle University College.

About this event
Every second Thursday, we host a social meet-up with creative inspiration and an opportunity to connect and learn how we can support one another’s work.

This month we hear from three creatives who’s work cuts across the world of culture and climate change — providing space and time for us reflect on and discuss one of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Joanne Ooi, EA Festival
Entrepreneurial founder of EA Festival, a showcase in East Anglia for creative leaders in literature, media, art, environment and music. Joanne will share her vision for EA Sustain. A new festival where culture meets environment. With programming ‘edifies, inspires and activates, while acknowledging the challenges specific to achieving sustainability jn rural areas’. Spanning everything from food and farming, rewilding, the state of our seas, eco fashion and more.

Daniel and Clara
Since meeting in 2010 Daniel & Clara have dedicated themselves to a shared life of creative exploration, working across moving image, photography, performance, installation and correspondence art.

Daniel and Clara will talk about how they use themselves and their life together as their material. Their work explores the nature of subjective experience, perception and reality. Set against the backdrop of the British landscape, their work presents narratives of psychological disorientation and the human creature in crisis.

This event is bought to you in partnership with Writtle University College, who are developing a new MA Environment and Creative Practice, for students who want to engage with the most pressing ecological questions of our time in creative and transformative ways, encompassing the wellbeing of humans, animals and plants.

Gaia, the inspiration for this months theme, is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring six metres in diameter, it will be suspended, two metres up, giving visitors an opportunity to see the earth as astronauts see it from space and will fill the nave of Chelmsford Cathedral. Artist Luke Jerram hopes that visitors will be inspired, seeing our planet in a new way and that the installation will give people an opportunity to reflect on its vulnerability.

Cashless bar with soft and alcoholic drinks. Beer supplied by our friends at Chelmsford Brewery.

How to find the venue: Patch is in the old Chop Bloc space, just off the High Street, by the escalator entrance to Debenhams, and next to Nandos. Google maps: 51.732628, 0.475775
