Events

Our events are hosted in the city as well as online. Our relaxed monthly Socials are a great way to meet others and hear inspirational talks from local and national creatives. Our online, monthly Hub events are the ideal platform to promote what you are doing and call out for support and collaboration.

If you are holding a creative or cultural event in or near Chelmsford then fill in the ‘Add your event’ form below, and we will include in the monthly Ignite Members’ and Friends’ newsletters.

We recommend that all events are also listed on the Chelmsford for You website, the central hub for event listings in Chelmsford.

Ignite Social: Storytelling

14 December 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

Every second Thursday of the month, we host a social meet-up with creative inspiration and an opportunity to connect and learn how we can support one another’s work. With a bar serving soft and alcoholic drinks, teas and coffees, relaxed music, socialising and inspirational speakers.

This month we will be considering very different mediums for storytelling, including poetry, folk music and independent genre and horror film making. We will close the evening with an acoustic performance from Songs of the Folk.

Lauren and AT aka Songs of the Folk

‘We sing original songs and stories about people, for people’Lauren and AT, also known as Songs of the Folk, will be talking to us about their music, poetry and creative journey.

Together Lauren and AT write and sing folk music, which has a strong narrative influence. AT also creates typed poetry with vintage typewriters, surfaces and frames. They have recently moved to Essex from North Carolina, and are currently exhibiting in ‘Artists at the Meadows’.

Lauren and AT will close the evening with some of their original music.

Scott Lyus

Scott will be talking about Crossroad Pictures and the Black Sunday Film Festival. Scott Lyus and colleague Chris Nials set up Crossroad Pictures to create feature length genre films ‘unlike anyone else on the UK market: compelling, character-driven pieces that ask topical and on-trend questions about the world around us’.

Together they have also set up the Black Sunday Film Festival, now held in Chelmsford every January – this festival features the best independent horror and genre films.

Scott will talk about these amazing projects, the storytelling medium of independent film and his own creative journey.
