Events

Our events are hosted in the city as well as online. Our relaxed monthly Socials are a great way to meet others and hear inspirational talks from local and national creatives. Our online, monthly Hub events are the ideal platform to promote what you are doing and call out for support and collaboration.

If you are holding a creative or cultural event in or near Chelmsford then fill in the ‘Add your event’ form below, and we will include in the monthly Ignite Members’ and Friends’ newsletters.

We recommend that all events are also listed on the Chelmsford for You website, the central hub for event listings in Chelmsford.

Ignite Social: The Spark!

12 September 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Yellow background, an image shows Spark! youth forum members standing together smiling, writing reads 'Ignite social, the spark'

Every second Thursday of the month, we host a social meet-up with creative inspiration and an opportunity to connect and learn how we can support one another’s work.

This month Spark! – Chelmsford’s cultural youth forum – take over the Ignite Social. Meet the inspirational youth forum and learn about their vision and future plans, as they speak on the importance of youth voice and share their experiences.

“We will be continuing last year’s theme of diverse creative careers. We would like to focus on and bring more awareness about different careers in the creative industries and unconventional career options in particular.”

Speakers:

  • Katie Deverell – Recently described as an Octopus with a Periscope, Katie loves innovative work that brings different people together. With a career spanning public, private, academic and voluntary sectors her roles have evolved from HIV related research through new product development to ceremony and experience design. Her latest work includes Gaia at Chelmsford Cathedral, Contemporary Rituals and Participatory Events a collaborative Knowledge Exchange event with The University of Essex, and Gather with Kellie Jones.
  • Thom Barrett – I’m Thom, a lecturer and game designer, I’ve taught creative subjects in Chelmsford since 2016. I have worked and studied around creative industries for most of my life. This journey has taken me through theatre, film, photography and into games design. The thread that connects all my interests is storytelling. I enjoy telling stories and affecting an audience; whether that’s through a game, a performance or in my teaching. I am a lifelong learner and developing new knowledge and skills is an important part of who I am.
